ugh. twenty-one and still arguing with mom over clothes.

daddy update: he's doing well!! had a little bit of pain today (i blame the potato salad. mayo, yuck!) but it passed after a few minutes.

so guys, i have to say that i reeeeeally, reeeeeally suck at poker. (the pocket aces, they do nothing!) actually, i think my favourite part is still shuffling and dealing the "slippery card" deck. oh well, atleast i got out of embarrassing "punishment" (surprisingly wasn't the first one out despite having a pitiful handful of chips less than halfway through). note to self: must stop blushing when dave asks me if i've got a good hand. or learn to blush on command. :)

so yeah, the weekend was really great! friday after delta, i met up with mei <3 and we just sat around talking about family, boys, and people who bug us, whilst endlessly quoting movies and family guy. sniff sniff, i miss spending time with my tacb!!! <3 on saturday, i finished "the time traveller's wife" (which had a very interesting premise) and then went to nat's early birthday/goodbye/good luck in ny potluck. all the people i wanted to see were there (and none of the people i didn't want to see, for that matter!), so it was nice hanging out (and sometimes being teased for my incoherant storytelling) and listening to stories about the fun that can be had with local anesthetics and roommates. :p yesterday, we had an exhibition game (post-downpour, so my shoes are still soggy) and went to amy's again for poker.

in contrast to all this fun, today i just went to work. the afternoon went by so quickly except for that last painful hour-and-a-half. where i just sat there, answering the occasional call, watching the clock. do you guys have any diverting suggestions on what i can do when things are slow at work? but i just discovered the web-based msn today (bless you, dave!) and i have a feeling that things'll be looking up soon! :)

** VERONICA MARS CANADIAN PREMIERE **
Monday, May 30th at 9pm, then continuing Thursdays at 8pm.

guys, just give the show a chance and watch the pilot on monday!!! (i've also got the episodes on cd, if you miss it.)
[/desperate shill]

so this in tuesday's metro: apparently some researchers have found that the 3 sections in the frontal lobe of the brain are associated with understanding irony and sarcasm. so when i tell someone that there's something wrong with them if they don't understand my jokes, there's a chance that i might actually be right! (that's right! all y'all are brain-damaged!)

NOOOOOOOO!!!! janice is being replaced by twiggy on top model!!!! (besides the cattiness, she was the best part...) on the plus side, nole marin is being replaced by ms. jay alexander (the runway walker).

first things first - daddy update: my dad's doing fairly well... thanks for the prayers, guys. he's a bit tired today, but definitely better than yesterday. in fact, he really wants to get to work as soon as he can! if i were him, i'd totally be milking this for all its worth... he had an ultrasound done today and found out that he has several (!!) large (!!) gallstones, so i'm thinking that he's going to have surgery to remove them. i'm just hoping that it'll be the small procedure (4 small incisions less than a centimetre long) rather than the one where you get cut open 9-12 cm... yikes.

but yay! he's ok!!!!!!! :D

and here's the rest of the day:
- worked
- got honked at by truckers
- bbq at kalam's (thanks guys! )
- girls' night where i introduced them to VM

before you guys start worrying, don't worry, there's a happy ending.

had a scary day today. went to work as usual with my dad when he starts complaining of stomach pains. i just thought, "what a big baby! he's probably just exaggerating." then a few minutes later one of his coworkers comes out and tells me that maybe i should go see my dad b/c he's not looking so good. it took me a few seconds to process this b/c, even at that point, i thought that they were playing a prank on me until i realised that how serious josh was. when i got to my dad, he was doubled over in pain - i had never seen him like this before. i think i didn't really start to freak out until he told us that a numb feeling was trailing down in arms and i realised his hands were cold. needless to say, i was a bit of a wreck - just a *tad* emotional... for a person who cries at disney movies, it's hard to keep it all in when you're waiting for an ambulance. as it is, my eyes are red and kinda stingy. don't worry, my dad's ok - i think a bout with gallstones caused the abdominal pain - but he'll probably be resting for the next few days. or else my mom and i will force him to relax. haha, actually, it was funny b/c even when he was being wheeled out by the paramedics, he was gasping out the codes and account numbers for his computer so that his coworkers could cover his customers for him. my dad - definitely one of a kind. <3 for those of you who don't know, gallstones are supposed to be wicked painful (possibly like kidney stones, to which i hear labour pains are preferred over) but once the pain subsides, you're pretty much back to normal (until the next attack).

anyway, i've been blessed with a wonderful dad, and further blessed with said dad still in comparatively good health. if anyone needs me, i'll be at home suffering silently in solidarity with my dad - eating bland, bland food. *sniff* i need a hug.

it's been awhile since i've last posted... i've mostly been working (back at samuel for now - $0.50 raise!) and hanging out with people...

may 5 - had lunch with david, tomlin, and ames at yummy bbq. drank out of a mug with a "unicorn-horned, udder-faced whale" (or what i like to call a "bunny").
may 7 - mongolian grill with the extended family. <3
may 8 - mother's day <3 spent the entire day with family :)
may 10 - potluck at mary's. "impressed" people with my culinary skills. very upset that i didn't get any cotton candy. :(
may 11 - planned for our other religions workshop in june.
may 12 - girls' night with special guest imran!!! it was so great to see him - have a safe trip to bolivia!!!
may 13 - some cranky people at work (i blame the weather); delta tonight

tommorrow: i'm garage sale-ing with the girls, possibly playing softball, and then eating at frankie's tomato for kirby's birthday!
sunday: a rabbi's coming over to my house on sunday at 3pm to teach us a little about the jewish faith and the old testament... if any of you are interested, by all means come!

ok, fine, ju does not cheat, she's just very good at strategizing.
ju: you know, if you put that tile over there, you can get 3 points.
me: hey, i didn't even see that! thanks ju!
ju: now give me 9 points!
now hurry back from waterloo, so we can learn more tricks from you! :)

btw, it's kinda scary, but we've all (or maybe it's just me) inexplicably started talking like you did last week. ["yea gah (guy)" and"whatchasayin'?" repeatedly]

{contented sigh} but it's so good to be done school. sleep in, play all day/night (until i start working). 'tis the life.

oh, so i forgot to post up my list of qualities i'm looking for in a guy, so here is part of it... [aside: sheesh, my family (from my 7-year old cousin to my grandma) keeps asking if i have a boyfriend yet. my response? "slim pickin's."]

note that the following list is in the order i thought the items up in - it doesn't necessarily signify what i value most, but i suppose it is still rather telling.
1. dry, witty, quirky, yet incredibly stupid sense of humour ("big"/crude humour devotees need not apply); must be able to tell when i'm actually joking [required]
2. a sincere, God-seeking christian who will help keep me accountable [req'd]
3. decisiveness. b/c, well, you know... [complement]
4. intelligent (a respect issue, i suppose); also, must must MUST be decently literate (i realise that i'm not grammarian, but when i see people using unnecessary contractions and apostrophes in the wrong place, i can't help but glower and mutter things under my breath. if it's somebody i love, then the reaction gets reduced to a cringe.) [req'd]
5. in possession of common sense (since i have none) [complement]
6. not completely clueless. just don't be an insensitive jackass, ok? [req'd]
7. sincere, honest [req'd]
8. someone i can depend on [req'd]
9. hot, guitar-playing australian guy [nice-to-have req'd!]
10. encouraging, patient, nice, willing to make an effort for the people in their lives, organized, non-smoker, appreciates "pee wee's big adventure", yada yada yada.... the list continues on...

so is this realistic, do you think? which ones were inspired by the people i've known throughout my life? which item will be the first to be dispensed with? and will anybody recognise the awesomeness of pee wee?!?

just got back from amy's... our newest obsession? carcassonne (aka "screw ju") . it's this fun german strategy board/tile game that i'll eventually have to acquire. (other must-haves are cranium, taboo, and poker chips and cards that don't have the sailor scouts on them.)
looks like i'll be seeing the west-end delta people a lot this summer - i hope we don't get sick of each other!!! (p.s. everyone else is invited to come join our board game sessions too)

also: welcome home, uni students!
