wondering : hmmm, is it too late for me re-learn study habits?
so i've been pretty busy as of late... for the past two weeks, i've been working 6 days/week, and it looks like it'll now be 7 days in the next little while... but i'm thankful to God that i have a job (two jobs, rather) and that i'm making a bit of a dent into my tuition fees. but since i'm pretty much working all the time, i haven't really had a chance to talk and meet up with friends. just so you know, i'm really not too tired to meet up and have a little fun in the evenings (i'm free all evenings, generally about after 5pm), it's just that it's a bit of a hassle to actually make plans with people. so please, if you want to do something, give me a call and i'd love to make definite plans (instead of the "we'll do something sometime" thing).
so i'm reading two new books: *a short history of nearly everything by bill bryson, and passion and purity by elizabeth elliot. for those of you who don't know, bryson is the hilarious author who wrote one of my favourite books (in a sunburned country). so even though his newest endeavour wasn't a travel book, i knew it had to be good... and it is! i've hardly made a dent in it (it's 500-odd pages long) and it's literally about the history of the earth (from creation to the physics to the atom, and so on), but he makes it so interesting! my favourite parts are when he writes about the hapless or eccentric scientists... did you know that isaac newton once stuck a long needle into eye socket "betwixt [his] eye and the bone as near to [the] backside of [his] eye" as he could just to see what would happen? or that he once "stared at the sun for as long as he could bear, to determine what effect it would have upon his vision"? in both cases, he miraculously recovered. oh, and then there was a british scientist by the name of henry cavendish who suffered shyness to a "degree bordering on disease". one time, an admirer came to his front step and starting heaping out praise to him. cavendish "received the compliments as if they were blows from a blunt object and then, unable to take any more, fled down the path and out the gate, leaving the front door wide open. it was some hours before he could be coaxed back to the property". this man was so shy that, in the event that he was at a party, it was understood by the other guests that he was, on no terms, to ever be spoken to or even looked at. those who wanted to speak to him about scientific matters were "advised to wander into his vicintiy as if by accident and to talk as it were into vacancy". definitely not a people person. :p anyway, i highly recommend the book b/c it's very informative and bryson's prose makes the topics accessible and interesting.
the other book is written by elliot, a hardcore old-fashioned christian writer, and jenne lent me the book to see what my thoughts were about the issues raised. as you can tell about the title, it's about the Godly perspective or approach to relationships. it's definitely an interesting and radical point of view, but i can't say that i agree with all of it. (then i'd really be doing everything wrong!) in her book, elliot stresses the distinction between the male and female roles, which i found somewhat archaic (especially when she uses the terms "hunters" and "gatherers"). this means that under no circumstances should the female ever initiate any part of the relationship. in some cases, i see the wisdom to this, and really think that no matter how crazy those things drive me, i really should have pulled back in the past and stopped calling or trying to find out "where we stood". and while i do agree that male and female friendships are rarely 100% platonic, i do think that the two sexes can be friends, despite what elliot says. her book pretty much said that you could not and should not have friends of the opposite sex and that calling just to say hi and chat (as friends only) should also not be done. i haven't read all of the book, so i still have to process and filter out the content, but it's definitely something jenne and i will discuss after i finish it.
so i got off the phone with grace <3 a while ago. i miss that kid. :( i haven't seen her in quite a while, so we chatted while grace kicked my ass at toki toki boom (just like the good ol' days...). ok, so grace's previous ravings got me hooked on a little reality show called america's next top model (my first, actually. i've never really gone for survivor, american idol, or any of that other reality junk on tv). this show is so gloriously catty and bitchy, it's the perfect show to watch in the summer with a bunch of girlfriends! i was watching the antm marathon on the life network, and all i have to say is that robin was just a terrible, terrible person! hands down, the worst depiction of a christian. ever. thank goodness shannon was nice and NOT hypocritical... but man, i can't wait to watch the next season! grace and i are going to watch the first episode next week - let the cattiness begin!!

finally! i have been so deprived from the computer... haven't been on in a week! anyway, things have been pretty busy here. i started work this week, so i haven't really done too much else besides that (and spending time with the family). at this rate, i'm never going to meet up with any other people! i still have to see benita and jenne and a whole lotta other people! i have seen anika a lot lately though - i was over for the series finale of angel. i totally called that infuriating ending - how could they end it like that?! grrr. :p oh, and last friday we went to see troy and mean girls. both were pretty entertaining, but the viewing of troy was somewhat hampered by the out-of-focus picture and the reel that they forgot about but then inserted near the end of the movie... on the plus side, we got a free pass!
oh, so guess what? i was going through some old cassette tapes in my room trying to see if i should toss them, when i find some old recordings of me singing and telling stories when i was 3 to 6 years old! in one of them, you can hear my aunt asking me to sing a christmas song - you hear me refusing and then proceeding to sing the rainbow brite theme song! hahaha. man, i loved that show.

what's with all my friends and all this ego-boosting? i have the best friends EVER!! thanks guys! :)
hey, so you know which people i have the utmost admiration for? adult education computer teachers. i've been trying to teach my parents some basic stuff on the computer (all they ever use is microsoft word and excel), and honestly, it can really try the patience! i suppose my brain might process things differently from theirs, but i swear i spent about 30 minutes (atleast!) teaching my parents just to rename files and place them in nice, organized folders!! what's there to get?! it's so straightforward!!!
it's a good thing i love them... :p

happy mother's day!!!
it's been a pretty good weekend. on friday, i went out with anika and grace to do a little shopping, ant-squishing, and card-playing. later that night, ebru and karen met up with us (felix was "sick") and we headed downtown for some drinks and conversation at bedford. saturday, i went shopping with my aunt (h&m at promenade is awesome!) and then ate at mongolian bbq with the family. and i pretty much spent today with my family - we just finished watching my sassy girl just now. don't worry liz, when you get back, we'll watch it again!
*sniff sniff* too much of these sappy movies and recent talk about marriage/old maid-ism is making me feel depressed! ah well.
also, the following things will get you a punch in the face (courtesy of me):
1. if you ask me what i'm doing this summer (jobs, trips, etc.)
2. if you ask me when i hear from UT about pharmacy.
3. if you're just plain being an ass.

the OC party was fun last night - it was so good seeing nat, anika, felix, and grace again! (mci people are the best!) we basically hung around - talking, eating mickey d's, teasing grace ;p and watch me make a fool of myself. haha, but it's all good b/c atleast i don't read animorphs books like some people... :p anyway, weird taste in books notwithstanding, i'm probably going to be seeing alot more of them. (troy or van helsing, anyone? i'm looking at you, anika!) i think we're going to try hitting up the art/museum circuit sometime... get all cultured up (but no modern art!). oh, and what about boston? the museum of bad art is there!! :p

havin' an OC party tommorrow at nat's!! yay! you bring the snacks, and i'll bring the fist fights! :p (man, how am i going to survive with no new episodes this summer?! oh, what a cruel next four months this will be...) but yeah, it'll be so great to get together with nat again! i haven't seen her since we went on our lil' gambling spree to woodbine (and maybe won, like, $2 at most! but it was fun!)
had a good day yesterday: went for a nice walk with my mom and had a good conversation with her (that did not end in some sort of argument!). later we cleared out the laundry room, and i am pleased to announce that i do not have to go shoe shopping b/c my mom found all her vintage heels from the 70s & 80s!! hurrah! (ok, so i'm sure all the guys reading this are like "who cares?" but whatever, i'm happy!) anyway, it was a nice hasslefree days with the parents, and i was going to cap it off with the OC finale when felix called me to go for some coffee. (i hope you know what i was giving up for you!?! :p just kidding!!) anyway, it was so good spending time with felix again. i think the last time i saw him was last summer (with matt wong?), and it was really cool how we totally picked up where we left off. and man, i don't think i've talked that much in a looong, looong time - we actually talked for 4 hours straight! though i suppose it would be more accurate to say i talked for 4 hours straight... i hope i didn't put you off with all my self-centeredness! :S anyway, looking forward to meeting up with him again with danny, robyn, or nat next time! there's so many people i still have to meet up with!!!! luckily the summer's just begun... ;)
oh, this reminds me: benita, you still totally owe me dinner. this summer, i'm totally collecting on that bet!

hrm. haven't blogged in a while... here's the past few days:
wednesday - grace and i headed over to ebru's to marvel over renovated kitchens, hollywood fashion, ym's last boy standing (hah!), the oc's julie and her stripper (who never hurt anyone and is trying to make his way through the world... naked), the nonsensicalness on angel, and the cuteness of puppy (aka mackie).
thursday - errands here and there. kal and brandon dropped by to say hello and glean cheating techniques from tv specials.
friday - interview. mom's birthday power-shopping (really nice pseudo-dangly earrings) at eaton centre and then delta at cpc. pastor tom was doing this q&a session on satan... was pretty interesting. did you know that, even though angels are more powerful, we will eventually have the power to judge them? it's because we're made in God's own image, so we're kinda closer to Him and get blessings that even angels don't receive... interesting, non?
saturday - mom's birthday! bought her some flowers, gave her the earrings, aand almost ruined her birthday.... oops. :s (but it all turned out fine in the end, thank God. we went to a buffet and then headed home just in time for my relatives to come over with a cheese cake! mmmm... i have a whole bunch of pictures of my cousins being cute (and attention-hogging... "take a picture of me! me! ME!") but i'll post 'em up later.
sunday - went to church. saw the chans! <3 came home and hung out with the family the day... haha, watched "under siege 2: dark territory" with my dad. oh steven seagal... if bullet wounds can't stop you, what will? but man, the leafs game was depressing...
don't know what exactly i'll be doing this coming week, but hopefully liz'll come over tommorrow so we can watch my sassy girl before she leaves on the 4th!
anyway, i'm trying to repair 8 months of damage on my sleeping patterns right now, so i'm gonna attempt to go to sleep . i'll be home, so for all of you who i haven't seen yet, make sure you atleast give me a call! hopefully we'll meet up soon!!! (felix! danny! rohan! what's going on? haven't heard from you guys in a while!)
