yay, i feel loved! (ooh, that's a good depeche mode song.)
haha, thanks alex. :)

{sniffle} there's nothing like talking with your mummy and daddy to make you both happy and sniffle-y. i am so blessed to have such a family - they're so supportive even when i mess up. which is quite often. unfortunately.

my goodness! i can't believe nobody has commented on my last post! does no one find pavel or the GW valentine as deliciously funny as i did? psh, humour is lost on you people... LOST, i say! ;p

anyway, i would just like to announce that i am officially broke and probably won't be going out anywhere anytime soon. sigh. such is a life of a poor university student... if anyone wants to donate $$$ to the tiffany shui fund, feel free to do so. either that, or buy my groceries. :)

so i'm off on yet another OC-caused music search. this time i'm looking for the song that played while marissa and teresa were talking at the end of the last episode. i think it's "des moines" from the group halloween, alaska.

oh, so i went to the st. lawrence string quartet concert with jeanie and grace on thursday. it was absolutely amazing... the pieces were played so passionately and just so perfectly - the dynamics, the subtle nuances, the meticulous timing... if you guys ever get the chance to hear them play, i highly recommend them. student prices are always about $10, but at the jane mallet theatre (which they frequent quite often) in downtown toronto, tickets are $5 for students (which is good as opposed to the normal $30+ adult price). honestly, this is the 3rd time i've heard them and the third time i've been blown away. and goodness, i didn't even like stringed music before! i'm a self-proclaimed band geek who has been scarred far to many times by hearing the beginner strings play way back in grade six... anyway, here was the programme:
> string quartet in f major (maurice ravel, 1875-1937)
> yiddishbbuk (osvaldo golijov, 1960-...)
> string quartet in c-major, op. 61 (antonin dvorak, 1841-1904)
i found the second piece to be a little inaccessible (a little too modern for my taste), but it was still very passionate since it was based on the drawings of three children killed during the holocaust. i loved the third movement of the dvorak piece (scherzo - allegro vivo), but my absolute favourite was the ravel. even the wonderful dieubussy (haha, erik satie coined it) told ravel "in the name of the gods of music and in my name too, do not alter a thing in your quartet."

hey so do any of you guys remember those awesome king's quest games? well i found these great remakes of the first and second games in that series, you should really check them out - a great time-waster! so yeah, i was playing the second one yesterday during the afternoon. in the evening i went over to vic and jess' to hang out with everybody, listen to dave sing, watch asian-pop videos while shuddering at the extremely effeminate guys in the band, teach the boys to play euchre, and eat chocolate cake and cookies! mmmmm... so yeah, we stayed over pretty late - i got home by taxi-ing back with xin and dave at 6:50 am... though i myself took a nice long nap while everybody else was playing an extremely competitive game of monopoly (filled with many outbursts of expletives.... ahem, vic!). oh, and you know what i learned while i was there? we were watching this korean music video when they all tell me that this girl, harisu, was actually a guy not too many years ago. she's quite hot. i'm sure all you guys are quite disturbed now.

yup, that's her.

was pretty productive today and worked on a project with some lab members and then read some psych. gonna go make some dinner now...

p.s. somebody kill me. i just found out that we have to do ANOTHER FREAKIN' FLY LAB this term! @#$^#$%#$&##!!!

ok guys, i found the FUNNIEST site ever...

meet pavel tsatsouline... a former training instructor for the soviet special forces who now trains swat teams and provider of "xtreme fitness for hard living comrades" videos! honestly, you have to check out all his dvd excerpts... too funny! enjoy:
> the russian kettlebell challenge
> relax into stretch
> power to the people!
> forced relaxation
and if you don't have real player, atleast read this. "comrade... when i'm done with you, you shall have the flexibility of a mutant... or else."

also, reread the golden words (sorry, the link is for the actual GW and not the fake journal)... i couldn't stop laughing once i started reading all of the articles i skipped over! (i mean, who actually reads every single articles that the journal normally has? they're so boring/stupid! pssh, serious journalism is overrated...) even the "get out there" section where they list movies, concerts, and art shows in kingston was changed too! did you know that "aunt jemima cook-off challenge 2 - the movie" is playing at famous players this weekend? or that "the Artist formerly known as Principal Leggett" has his display "erotic nachos/sans cheese" at the agnes etherington art centre? (my goodness, how did i manage to miss those?)

this is kinda late, but i missed the last issue: GW clip n' save valentines cards i like the mortal kombat one...

warm fuzzies :)
thanks brandon.

argh. am trying to find a ryan adams' wonderwall... does anyone have it? i don't care what other people say, it's a great cover!

plans:
gonna go with jeanie and grace to see the st. lawrence quartet on thursday and then probably go with ketan to see a band play on saturday at the grad club.

haha, did you guys see today's fake journal (aka golden words)? it said that noam chomsky was coming to teach at queen's! i didn't catch on at first, but as i was reading it i kept wondering why it sounded so much like GW (especially the classifieds!) and kept checking the front page to make sure i was reading the right thing!

guys, i SO don't want to do this lab... jeeze, it's only worth 2% or something, why am i stressing over it? (probably b/c i need any marks that i can get... :( ) anyway, just wanted to wish ketan a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! i gotta go do some lab stuff now. booo. but atleast i'll be completely "done" everything after tommorrow, then i can relax (somewhat), meet up with friends, watch the st. lawrence quartet, etc. (when's the next reading week? i'd like another one right about now... man, getting up this morning for class was rough.) in the meantime, amuse yourself with the new addition to the page: a chatterbox underneath the guestbook links.

back in k-town now...

ok, so i did end up going to the phoenix with erin, liz, and rolo last night. the music was alright - not outstanding, but had enough good songs interspersed throughout that it was generally fun. plus we got to see spike and ben! hahaha, we're all such big nerds... :p but yeah, it was fun seeing rolo, there was a lot of eye candy, i was introduced to the yumminess that is an amaretto sour, and i got to see erin's fa-lame-ing hair! the only downsides were the extreme smokiness and the fact that these environments are not kind on short people... let's just say that i got jostled around a lot, and there were a lot of, um, chests at my head level... yeah. :p

hey, so you know what i found out? there are buses that run all-night long when the subway shuts down... liz and i actually returned from yonge-bloor at 3am all the way back to the blockbuster by my house on the same bus! i think it had previously been dubbed the vomit express or something along those lines... hahaha. but yeah, it goes along the bloor-danforth line all across town in the wee hours of the night, ending in etobicoke. very helpful, if you ask me.

today was missions sunday at cpc... the speaker, bob morris, was quite interesting ("galileeans were the newfies of the middle east") and the acts drama was good. (go megan and iulia!) after church, went with my favourite family (the chans!) to lunch... always great to see uncle fred, aunty irene, and jenne! then came home, packed a bit, and watched proof of life with my parents. it was a pretty decent movie, and it is really sad to think that those things really do happen to people in real life.

so yeah, my parents almost got into a serious accident yesterday just a few feet away from my house. we live right by a curve on a small suburban street, and my parents were just coming home from grocery shopping when some other car comes tearing across the curve. what happened was that the other car was going ridiculous fast on this small street and as it was rounding the bend, it swerved to miss a parked car and failed to see my parents coming in the opposite direction. luckily my dad saw the other car and just managed to swerve his car out of the way, so our car just got a few minor scratches at the side. i think the other driver was trying to stop suddenly right afterwards, but since it was really slippery outside and he was going really fast, he rammed right into a tree. thank God he wasn't hurt, but his car, a brand new rented 2004 ford explorer was completely totalled. i mean, completely wrecked. even one of the tires flew off in the impact - it's a miracle that nobody got hurt. honestly, at his speed, if he had hit my parents head on... i'm not sure what exactly happened after that, but the guy was actually arrested and taken away in cuffs. apparently he lived on our street (there go our neighbourhood relations... :( ) and he left the accident scene to go home and drink (more?) and then refused to come out later. yeah. isn't it great how the world is full of responsible drivers? sigh. i'm glad that atleast the other guy wasn't hurt though.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEI!!!! i had a wonderful time with benita and mei yesterday; i really wish we got to see each other more often... but it's nice to know that we'll always be there for each other when it counts. (and even when it doesn't!) after shopping with the girls at dixie value (hooray for $5 everything!), i decided to go to delta, where we had a decidedly different but interesting bible study on the character of jesus - we got to flex our acting muscles! :p it was good to really examine the circumstances, environment, and emotions surrounding jesus as he taught, healed, and just... lived, you know? give pause towards things you wouldn't normally consider... haha, like what were the reactions of zebedee and the hired hands when james and john walked off? "uh... guys? guys? um, where are you going? we just started working!?!" but honestly, even though He wasn't a "beautiful" man, how much presence and authority do you think He had in order to cause people to drop everything and follow Him with just the words "come follow me and i will make you fishers of men". how did they recognise that he was the "real thing"? (and did andrew and simon even know what "fishers of men" meant?) all things that i'd love to find out one day.

having a big family dinner today... haven't spoken to erin, liz, or anybody else these past few days, so i'm not sure what's going on tonight. in the meantime, gotta do this orgo formal write-up.

haven't blogged in a while now... ok, so recap:

tuesday - STEPH'S 21st BIRTHDAY!!!! hope you had a great day! had dinner with her, giz, her parents, kal, brandon, ed, felix, and benita to celebrate her birthday. (mmmm... peking duck and a LOT of dessert...) it was really nice just to get together with everybody, especially steph since i never see her anymore. plus i was introduced to the yumminess that is napolean cake! after the copious amounts of food, we watched some smallville and then headed out to see 50 first dates. it was a pretty cute movie, but i was a little disappointed that it had a lot of the puerile humour that is all too prevalent in movies these days. i mean, don't get me wrong, adam sandler movies always have stupid humour in them (that's why i love them), but this one seemed a tad grosser than such beloved classics such as happy gilmore and billy madison. but still, gross-out comedy notwithstanding, it still made me laugh a lot! :)

wednesday - ummm... didn't do too much during the day (oooh! i cut my hair!) but i watched half of intolerable cruelty with my mom and dad until brandon and ju came by to pick me up for bubble tea. i hadn't seen ju yet since i came back, so it was great seeing her! it was kinda nice, just hanging out with her and brandon... sometimes when i'm with all the guys (and i'm sure ju knows what i'm talking about), there's just too much testosterone and basketball talk floating around. it gets a little much sometimes. but yeah, since it was just the three of us, we caught up on the latest news, grilled brandon on various topics, and just generally had a good time (even if brandon wouldn't get me a straw... it's training, i tells ya!) but best part of the evening: "that girl looks like an ugly frog!" ahahaha!!! ju, i missed you! anyhow, when i got back home, i heard my darling sister gave me a call, so i returned it and we had a nice chat about various super thursday-worthy things.

tommorrow - benita's coming over, we're going shopping and then over to mei's for her birthday-sleepover!

you know what i think it is? stir-craziness! i'm going crazy!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(i wish i could do that in real life. i feel like i'm going to explode.)

so what happened?

ok, so if you're wondering about the outburst below, i've just been feeling like i don't completely belong with certain friends anymore. from school, church, and elsewhere. sniff sniff, i'm an oddball!

but fortunately, there are always those other friends where things will never, ever change. except to perhaps strengthen. i just wish all my friendships were like that - i had thought they all were.

listening to zero 7's when it falls (thanx liz!) right now... absolutely gorgeous.

fleeting thoughts.

have been feeling rather disconnected from things. like i don't really belong anywhere, i'm just drifting about. disjointed and ephemeral. it's a strange sort of detachedness... and a longing.

it's a disconcerting feeling that lies in juxtaposition with my "newly found" sense of contentment. the proximity's just too close, possibilities linger unwantedly in my head and i find myself almost wishing for the safety of kingston. i'm struggling to rein in my self-pitying thoughts and to focus on the goodness of God. but i find my resolve crumbling as unbidden thoughts poison my peace of mind. am i being pragmatic? or a coward and liar? for all of my posturing and theories, i'm too ashamed to admit the latter. i, by no means, am revoking my present thoughts regarding contentness, but i had not realized how strong the opposing sentiments still were... hey mr. id, can you take it down a notch? this has gone on long enough. nobody cares anymore, and shouldn't anyhow. damn this stubborn pride of mine, it's the only thing that's holding me back.

i hereby reclaim my sanity.

search me, o God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
see if there is any offensive way in me
and lead me to the way everlasting.

~ psalm 139:23,24

amen.

a long time ago / we used to be friends / but I haven't thought of you lately at all / if ever again / a greeting I send to you / short and sweet to the soul I intend / ah ah ah ah / come on now honey / bring it on bring it on yeah / just remember me when / you're good to go / come on now sugar / bring it on bring it on yeah / just remember me when...

- we used to be friends, the dandy warhols

man, i love that song - makes me wanna dance!

so how was everybody's v-days? hopefully good? mine was spent with my two most favourite valentines in the world: my parents! <3 now before you all scoff and say that i'm a big loser, let me just tell you that it was actually a great day! i've made my peace with the day, and i had so much fun talking and giggling with my mom!! (and boy, can she dance... :p ) but yeah, it was a really good day! and it was a MUCH, MUCH better alternative to hanging around and watching basketball with the guys. blech!

today, went to cpc and then went to lunch with steph (HI STEPH!!!!) and brandon at marche (mmm... strawberry crepes with ice cream...), then dropped by the eaton centre for a bit. ed drove us back home - it was kinda squishy with me, felix, steph and kalam in the back seat - and now i'm home again!! erin and i were going to go downtown to joe for retro night, but on account of the cold weather and the fact that we couldn't round up enough people to come in time, we're going to go for a more low-key night with liz. prolly come over to my house for a bit and then go out for dessert? yum! oh, and mei's going to drop by for a bit since she's going to be at her grandma's tonight. yay!

anyhow, since we're not going to go clubbing tonight, erin has come up with the idea of going to phoenix on saturday night with a whole mass of people - that way, people will have plenty of notice AND it'll be more fun going with a huge mob of friends. you're all welcome to come with us next saturday, even if you're not ex-martingrovers... the more the merrier!

i have truly mastered the art of getting up in time for 8:30 classes...

7:40 am - alarm goes off. press [snooze].
7:49 am - alarm goes off. press [snooze] once more.
7:58 am - alarm goes off. trying to wake up (while still in bed).
7:59 am - drift off a little.
8:00 am - wake up.
8:01 am - no honestly, wake up.
8:02 am - wake up, you're going to be late.
8:04 am - you know, your alarm radio is still going.
8:05 am - maybe you should check to see what time it is.
8:06 am - crap! turn alarm clock off and bolt out of bed.
8:07 am - brush teeth and change at the same time (multitasking! oooh!).
8:10 am - wash face.
8:11 am - get backpack ready.
8:13 am - put on shoes.
8:15 am - catch the cat centre bus.
8:21 am - etherington.

hmmm... i bet you were all riveted, weren't you? :p
anyhow, now i'm done school for the next glorious week. i'll be back in toronto by 6pm... give me a call/email/message if you're in town, ok? i want to meet up with people!

so decided to stay in last night after orgo b/c i was feeling a bit grungy. watched some daria episodes with grace and hasib, had some baileys and ice cream (mmmmm), and then watched the new o.c. episode! i'm sad b/c seth being less adorable and nice these days... :( (but i still <3 him, anyway!)

ok, we'll i'm off to pack and burn music and o.c. episodes (so i can convert erin!) off my comp... see you soon!!!

p.s. just wanted to say a big "HI" to felix and danny!!!! i miss you guys, when was the last time we got together? sometime in the summer? sorry for being such a neglectful friend... :( anyhow, i added your pages to the links section over there ----> (and i'll see you both soon? ish?)
--- whoa! speak of the devil! i was just thinking "hmmm... i wonder what danny's msn is?" when the little dialogue box just popped up asking for authorization! nice!

oh, and don't forget to show a little <3... leave me a comment!

decided to forego classes today in order to study for my exams. this is more studying than i normally do, but somehow i still think i'm going to be a little screwed when those two midterms roll around... on the plus side, i'm almost done!!! by 9pm thursday night, i will know the meaning of sweet, sweet freedom... hrm, how shall i celebrate?

fyi, 6 comments are STILL 6 comments, even if half of them were from ju! i'm STILL popular! you can't take that away from me!!!! NEVER!!!!

further proof that people love me: i got another card/letter in the mail today!!!! benita sent me a v-day card that was actually {gasp} semi-legible!!! it was very exciting, let me tell you. i've gotten so much real mail here in kingston than i think i have ever had before - but then again, i used to see people face-to-face more often, so that's probably why. but still, it's such a nice pick-me-up! i LOVE getting mail... {hint hint}

lalala... only 2 more days until i head back to toronto... WOOOOHOOOOOO! i can't wait!!!! going out with my family for dinner once they pick me up from kipling... yum. it's great coming home again! and i can't wait to see tacb!!! have fun at the retreat, bun! (galdarnit! who am i going to spend anti v-day with now? any takers????) we'll have to meet up for another sleeeeepover again... mei's birthday? (eeep! what to get for her?)

also: NEW O.C. TONIGHT!!!! (though i must not shouldn't watch it until i'm done my midterms... right? sigh. they can't leave me hanging like this! oliver's a looney! and i don't care what all of you say (ahem, erin), it's a GOOD show! perhaps a little unrealistic, but that's the whole point! escapism! (plus cute boys!)

to take a page from brittany (daria), "eeep!" only t-2 days until both my invert and orgo midterms... that's slightly worrisome.

so guess what i did in biol 206 lab today? i phenotyped and sexed several hundred fruit flies!!! yay??? i think one of the worst feelings in the world is the sensation of several flies crawling around on your skin... {shudder} she told me they were anesthetized!

but on a happier note, kalam gave me a call (long-distance! ooooh!) and was gracious enough to listen to me go on and on incoherantly for about hour, as per usual. it was really great talking with him - i can't wait to meet up with the boys (and ju, too!) for reading week. haha, i have no idea why he puts up with all my ramblings, but he apparently finds me amusing, so who am i to deny him the pleasure? :p but yeah, it was just good to hear from him and see how he was doing. plus, i got to impart the patented "tiffany secret to happiness" that a select few know about (remember benita?)... i tells ya, the next thing you know, it'll be the next big craze sweeping across the nation! so take charge of your destiny, dial the toll-free number below, and optimize your happiness! for only 17 easy payments of $29.95, you get all 5 seminars in the "tiffany secret to happiness" series on VHS, AND we'll throw in the free "tiffany guide to self-actualization" AND a preview to the "tiffany school of dating" series that had a 99.9% graduation rate since its establishment in 2001. operators are standing by to take your call! mastercard and visa are accepted. call within the next 23 minutes and get this free turkey baster!

ok, perhaps i got a little carried away... but there IS a tiffany school of dating! abhishek was the first graduate! ask him! and the secret to happiness? chocolate, happy music that makes you want to get up and dance, and God. simple as that. :p

and boy, did i sleep! ten glorious hours! (i woke up at around noon, but actually got up at around 2 or 3pm...) i'm feeling so relaxed right now. i have no idea where grace is (prolly with hasib, or studying), so i have the place to myself in wonderful tranquility. not even any music on - just dreamy silence (oh, and the hum of the comp). so yeah, i woke up late this morning, ate a little, read ephesians and prayed a lot. i've been pretty much praying for the usual, like people's midterms, health, and whatever worries they've told me about, but does anyone else have any specific prayer requests? they don't have to be big things, either. it could be about school, finding a job, lack of discipline, patience, boy/girl problems, the lack-of-boy/girl problems (heh heh... how well acquainted i am with those... :p), or anything else that's on your mind! just let me know.

anyhow, i think i'm good to go for studying now (i think that will inevitably crash my mood.... :p). take care, ladies and gents. hope all is well, and i'll be seeing you in a little less than a week!

-- how strange... i just looked out my window as i was typing the above sentence and i saw a little person run out of the semi-seedy alley across the street and then take off.

just got back from the "serendipity" semi... was pretty fun even though the majority of the music sucked... haha, though i think ming would have actually liked the music though! yeah, so with a slow start (and sometimes middle), it turned out to be decent... always nice to have an opportunity to get all hooched up and "shake it like a polaroid picture". (and yes, there was the obligatory outkast "hey ya" playing - everywhere i go, that song follows... but it was still the best when ben was there "flailing" during the crystal ball... haha...) if anything, it was a good opportunity for grace and i to be catty and make comments about the other girls. honestly, do some of these girls hack at their skirts with scissors just for the optimal skin bare-age? but goodness, never have i seen so many pretty asian girls in one room before (haha, i know SOMEBODY with "yellow fever" who would have loved it there...), as grace puts it, it was slightly depressing... :p but hey, i did get a "hi, my name's dan. what's your name?" AND i got dancea with dave ma AND xin!!! ;) (girls, i know you're all jealous...) i swear, dave ma is the MAN. his dancing is slightly remiscent of simon's (simon, we missed you at this one!!!), though i think dave was a little more --- well, let's say he got into the spirit of the music... ;) (oh, my tender eyes!) and it was really cool hanging out and talking with xin while waiting for the taxi - i should hang out with him more. (hey, so notice the use of the word "cool"... i was wearing strappy sandals and standing inch high in slush... frigid would be a more accurate term.)

anyhow, i'm going to grab a snack now - you can amuse yourself by looking through my semi pics. yeah, i don't think i look very good in my pictures, but meh, i had fun anyway!

brandon, i swear, you are a total chick magnet! :p

ahhhhhhhhhh. just got up from a nice long nap... :) ok, so the midterm today was really hard. yeah, it's one of those "even if i had studied more, i wouldn't have done much better" exams. but s'all good, b/c atleast i'm done for the week!!! (and now i can sleep!!!!) so yeah, after classes, grace and i were looking at OTC drugs and their illicit effects on the comp. oh, and found out how to make ricin - an organic extrapolation not unlike the one we did a few weeks ago! yeah, don't worry, i'm not about to go on any crazy drug-induced killing sprees... like the site said, if i were to try to extrapolate the toxins anyway, i'd end up inadvertently poisoning myself. apparently you only need 500 mg (around the size of the head of a pin) of the stuff to kill an adult. yikes. but it's kinda interesting that i technically could make it (though i'd probably get a crappy yield of 37% or something)... imagine what we could do if we had that nice, beautiful chernoff chem lab at our disposal....

and since we went grocery shopping today, you'll have to excuse me b/c i'm going to gorge myself on grapes and chicken now! i wish you all good luck on your midterms and a wonderful weekend! (p.s. i ended up buying the ticket for the semi today, so i guess i'm going now! anyone else wanna come with?)

no sleep last night, no sleep tonight as well. one down, three more to go. but, oh man, i've got a killer headache - must take a nap before studying some more and heading out to lab. despite my worse fears, psych went fairly well just now. i had a few "oh man! i just looked at this ten minutes ago!" moments, but it was still pretty solid. (aside: it's great how God looks out for the desperate! thank You!)

anyhow, here's my schedule for the next week:
today - nap, study, lab, study, study, study
thursday - study, write 206 midterm, classes, SLEEP
friday - class, sleep, lounge, semi-formal?
saturday to thursday morning - STUDY
thursday - invert + orgo midterms
friday - home!

just got back from my first ever small group! yay! i'm really excited b/c i've been looking for a small group to join for quite some time now, and these girls all seem really nice. hopefully they'll be able to keep me accountable - i need people to help me keep on track of my spiritual life - i've grown too complacent. anyhow, i'm looking forward to next week's bible study on ephesians.

liz, if you burn that cd for me, i'd be very, VERY grateful... ;) hahaha
yeah, i will be back for reading week (possibly even the full week!), so we will have to meet up again! (movie night part deux? return of the mandy moore? {SHUDDER} ok, maybe not that theme... oh hey! we could go for retro night, since i wasn't there for joe last time!)

to my BEST: <3 you! remember, bouffy and touffy forever! *muah*

ok. i gotta go frantically study for my two midterms now... i'll blog later. take care! -- ooooh! and leave a message and let me know what you guys are planning on doing for reading week! (i'm pretty sure i've got the entire week off, so does anyone wanna go on a trip? ;) i wish....)
